Revealed: Where the best places to work in Britain and the US are


Employees at Britain’s best firms to work for are enjoying perks including free meals and flexible working hours. The website Glassdoor has put together a list of the 50 best companies to work for in Britain, based on feedback from staff on such issues as employee benefits and work-life balance.

The travel company Expedia came out top of the best firms for the second year in a row. Workers gave Expedia possitive reviews on its flexible environemnt, healthcare and travel allowance benefits.

ARM Holdings, HomeServe UK and Mott MacDonald also got places in the list’s top five. Meanwhile HomeServe UK enjoyed high prasie from employees for its people culture and approachable managers.

The top ten companies were Expedia, ARM Holdings, HomeServe UK, Mott MacDonald, Hays Plc, Peninsula, Unilever, Salesforce, Screwfix and First Derivatives.


Meanwhile, in America, the global business consulting firm Bain & Comapny was the Best Place to Work for the third year. Once again, Bain won against all other companies on the list. It came out above the 2015 winner, which was the accommodation disrupter Airbnb.

Bain employees praised the company for providing a positive work environment. They said that it supported intellectual curiosity. Meanwhile, Bain parter Jane Gonnerman said that it was important to the firm to create an environment where people could create the career which worked best for them. Social media behemoth Facebook took the runner up spot this year.

The top ten in the US was Bain & Company, Facebook, Boston Consulting Group, Google, World Wide Technology, Fast Enterprises, In-N-Out Burger, LinkedIn, Adobe and Power Home Remodeling. As working lives have become blurred with home time as a result of modern technology, employees are said to increasingly rate flexible working and extra perks which can help them to enjoy their time at work and create a better work-life balance.
