A treasure trove at home for the holidays Share
Almost every year, my daughter and I fight the madness that is known simply as Black Friday, seeking a few early season bargains on the road to Christmas Day. But while sick people like us do find a warped sense of pleasure in fighting the crowds and standing in eternal lines, what we don't enjoy is going back to the same places throughout the season, hoping to find something different, something better as we round out our Christmas shopping and look for those special stocking stuffers for those special someones. But this year is going to be different, for now I know that there is life out there, aside from the big department stores and malls in Champaign, Terre Haute and beyond. This year, I have ''discovered'' a veritable treasure trove that lies right here in our own backyard-a treasure trove comprised of more goodies and more local retailers than I even realized existed in our local communities. From Marshall to Martinsville to Casey, we have eating establishments for every taste and retailers offering everything from antiques and collectible to home accents, holiday items, toys and games, candles, bath and body products, salon services, tanning and massage, custom embroidery, and nostalgic throwbacks that will remind you-and your loved ones-of the very best Christmases of days gone by. That's why this year, I'm going to enjoy the hunt and find a few things you can't find in just any old store. This year, I'm going to find something different, something nostalgic, something special-and where better to find it than right here in good ol' Clark County? That way, not only will it be more special, but there's the added satisfaction of knowing that I'm supporting the people and places right here at home-and that's something to be merry about! Lotz out.
