Farmers come together to help Schiver family Share
Over 60 farmers and their helpers turned out last Monday to finish the harvest for the Schiver family following the untimely death of Robert ''Rob'' Schiver. Schiver and Son Farms is a three-generation farming operation that included David Schiver, his sons John and Rob, and John's son, Jesse, along with Larry Smith, who has worked for the Schivers for the past 50 years. The harvesting event was organized by Billy Garver and his son Jason who, with their crop spraying business, have worked closely with the Schivers for over 30 years. The Schivers farm 2,000 plus acres, and according to Billy, Rob was a huge part of their farming operation and will be greatly missed. ''The Schivers have helped a lot of other people, and the community very quickly came together to help them,'' Billy said. ''It's a great tribute to Rob and to the Schiver family.'' Nine combines were utilized along with two of the Schiver combines plus 11 augor wagons and 45 grain trucks. Arends Brothers Inc., John Deere dealer in Ashmore, furnished lunch for all of the workers.
