Champion Fitness Physical Therapy opens in Casey

Share

A new physical therapy clinic opened in Casey on July 6. Champion Fitness, located in the former Verizon building on Route 40, is one of 15 physical therapy clinics owned by Jeff Schade of Pontiac.

Serving as Physical Therapist for the Casey office is Cory Hanley, who has been with Champion since 2007. Hanley received his associate's degree from Lake Land College in 2004 and his Bachelor's and Master's degrees in physical therapy from the University of Evansville in 2007. Hanley also serves the Tuscola clinic.

Hanley's duties at Champion Fitness include patient education and performance of exercises and manual therapy to restore strength and muscular control. His area of expertise is Selective Functional Movement Assessment and integrating a total body approach to rehab and wellness, instead of focusing solely on the injured area.

Most patients are referred by a doctor, but Cory said a few come in with complaints, and he will do a quick screening. After that he will have the patient contact his or her primary physician, or he will make the contact.

''In Illinois,'' Hanley said, ''a doctor's referral is required in order for insurance to pay, but most of our work is post surgical after joint replacement or tendon repairs, or for athritis, tendonitis, or sports related injuries. The brunt of our patient load is orthopaedic--bone, joint and muscle related.''

The equipment utilized at Champion Fitness includes modalities for pain and inflamation which can be ultra sound, electronic stimulation, iontophoresis, or heat or ice.

''We also do a lot of manual theraphy,'' said Hanley. ''Patients work with exercise equipment, resistive training, elastic resistance, or weight resistance. We work on balance training and training core strength with various methods.''

At the present time, Hanley divides his time between Tuscola and Casey. As the practice grows, additional personnel will be added to the group.

Owner and founder, Jeff Schade PT, opened his first Physical Theray office in Pontiac in 1995 and soon realized the need for physical therapy in a small community and decided to look into providing that service in other small communities.

''We're excited to be in the Casey area,'' Schade said. ''Igrew up in a small town, and Casey is exactly the type of community we look for when we search for areas to possibly expand. Everyone has been exceptionally warm to our arrival.''

At Champion Fitness they encourage everyone to Work! Play! Everyday! and they want their patients to ''Get Busy Living!''

''We want our patients to get back to enjoying the lifestyle that they were doing earlier, or even things they maybe haven't done for years. We want them to be able to dance at their daughter's wedding, get out in that garden and check the rosebushes, play another round of golf, or just carry the groceries in from the car.''

Physical Therapist Hanley and his wife Nicole live in Casey and look forward to becoming a part of the community. He enjoys all types of outdoor activities, especially hunting and fishing.

Anyone who is in need of physical therapy should consult a doctor or call Champion Fitness Physical Therapy at 877.348.8500. An Open House is planned for the near future.
