Covered Wagon Antique Mall has it all

George and Bobbie Nash opened the Covered Wagon Antique and Craft Mall on a full-time basis in April 2009. The Mall, home of the former Davis Cafe, is located at the junction of Rt. 40 and 49 at #2 Staley Ave. They are open 10-4 p.m., Monday-Friday, and 9-1 p.m. on Saturday.

The Nashes will tell you they handle ''a little bit of everything,'' and after hearing all that they have to offer, that term sums it up as well as anything.

''We like primitives, antiques, used furniture, large and small appliances and jewelry,'' George said as he went on to list tools, fishing gear, books, lawn ornaments, stoneware, collectibles, dolls, coins, toys, knives, watches, books and record albums. They carry some used clothing and prefer name brands.

They buy, sell and trade daily including complete estates. For the person who can't afford to pay full price for an item that day, the Nashes offer a layaway plan.

A fitter-welder by trade, George worked on major power stations. He was originally from Ashmore; Bobbie was originally from Moline, and they now live north of Kansas after living 25 years in Houston.

As to how they got involved in the business of buying and selling, Bobbie said, ''I kind of married into it. He liked it, and I got involved, and I love it.''

''I've always been a bit of a salesman at heart,'' said George. ''As a child, I sold berries door to door, and of course, no one could refuse a little boy. We like the nostalgia stuff ourselves. We get to enjoy it for awhile and then pass it on.''

The Nashes said they had always wanted their present location but had never found it empty.

''We've had a real warm welcome from people,'' George said. ''We've had them in from all over, even Denmark.''

When you're in the market for a particular piece or just want to browse and take a walk down memory lane, stop by the Covered Wagon and Craft Antique Mall where they offer, in George's words, ''antiques to rummage, stoneware to fine china.''
