Tipswords' Little Green Barn is Chamber Business of the Month  Share
The Casey Chamber of Commerce Business of the Month recently expanded to include a new enterprise, a consignment shop. The Little Green Barn, owned by Bill and Paula Tipsword since 2006, offers flowers and vegetable plants along with other gardening needs in the spring, and mums and pumpkins in the fall. Rather than have the building sit idle much of the year, the Tipswords decided to start a consignment shop, acting on the advice of Paula's older brother. Paula said the resale shop has gone well, and she's had a positive response to the new business. Once the plants and vegetables arrived this spring, they realized a need for more space and added on to the building. ''Next spring everything should be less congested,'' Bill said. ''The new side will be Paula's, and I will have the gardening supplies here in the original building.'' Bill and Paula recently found a couple of new suppliers for flowers and for willow furniture, something that has done well in the garden side.
Anyone wishing to sell items in the consignment shop should contact Paula. She will accept ''gently worn'' clothing items. ''The clothes have to be seasonal,'' Paula said. ''I keep items for 60 days, and then the customer can pick them up, or I will donate them.'' Items are sold on a 50/50 commission and can be pre-priced or Paula will price them. Other items sold in the shop are small appliances, dishes, knickknacks, pictures, and home decorating items. ''Purses sell well,'' Paula said. The Little Green Barn had been open seven days a week, but now that plants are about sold out, seasonal hours will be in effect until September when mums and pumpkins arrive. At the present time, they are planning to be open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Bill and Paula appreciate everyone's support of their business.
