Business as Usual for J & K Mitchell Share
J & K Mitchell received good news last week in the form of a letter from Chrysler Corporation informing them they were accepted to continue on with the new company. ''We were concerned,'' said Chris Gardner, sales manager for J & K. ''We were confident that we meet all the criteria, but when it's in someone else's hands, you never know.'' ''Karen and I have been praying for other dealerships and their families, and we, in turn, appreciate those people who have been praying for us,'' said owner Jeff Mitchell. Nearly 800 Chrysler dealers lost their franchise with 44 of them in Illinois. Of the 789 that will be shut down in 30 days, Chris said most of them are in metropolitan or suburban locations. Dealers in the Casey area whose doors will be closed are in Tuscola, Decatur, and Danville.

''We actually had our best year yet in Chrysler sales, last year,'' Chris said. ''It shows there's a place for the rural dealer.'' Jeff went on to say that a large amount of sales tax revenue is generated from every vehicle sold which goes to the city. ''We're proud that J & K Mitchell is able to contribute because it is due to the loyal support of our customers, and for that we are grateful,'' added Jeff. As for General Motors, no news is good news, Chris said. GM dealers who were losing their franchise received a letter informing them of that fact, although they will be able to operate until the end of 2010. Although GM is not releasing a list, as Chrysler did, the company did disclose that 1,100 letters were sent out. J & K received no correspondence from General Motors. ''We're happy,'' said Chris. On that note, it is business as usual at J & K Mitchell, which is good news for them, and good news for the community. Sharon Durham is a staff writer for the Casey Reporter.
