Council hires two, will seek water meter reader

Share

The Bridgeport City Council met in special session on Monday to discuss personnel matters.

With a 4-1 vote, the council approved hiring two part-time city employees, Nathan Ferguson and Joy ''Joe'' Oneal. Kay Mossberger abstained from voting since her grandson was one of those selected for the position. Councilman George Zellars was absent from the meeting. Both new employees have CDL licenses and will be performing jobs within the city.

The city will also be taking bids for an individual contractor to read water meters. Some of the specific requirements for the position will include that the person(s) have general mathematics knowledge, dress appropriately, and have proof of driver's license and insurance. It is a physical job which requires extensive walking and some lifting. The meters will be read between the 20th and 26th of each month. The city will provide a wand and reflective vest.

The bid specifications will be published for consideration of potential employees. The council expects to fill the position at the September 8 council meeting.
