Citizens fight crime, drugs with 'National Night Out' Share
Lawrence County will be giving neighborhood crime and drugs ''a going away party'' on Tuesday, Aug. 4 with the ''National Night Out'' from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Lawrenceville City Park. Neighborhoods throughout the country are joining forces with thousands of communities for the 26th annual event. In all, more than 37 million people are expected to participate in the night out designed to: 1) heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, 2) generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts; 3) strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and 4)send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back. Residents throughout the county are invited to enjoy free food from 5 - 7 p.m., swimming from 4 - 8 p.m., giveaway drawings, viewing emergency vehicles from area law enforcement, fire protection districts and ambulance services. The Lawrence County K-9 Unit will also be on hand to give demonstrations of crime fighting skills. It is the second annual event to be hosted at the Lawrenceville City Park. It is being sponsored by county law enforcement and Neighborhood Watch. Lawrenceville Police Chief Mike Mefford is coordinator of the event.
