Highlights of Sports Year are Recognized in RHJH Awards Ceremony  Share
Red Hill Jr. High School honored its athletes in an awards ceremony on Tuesday. Coaches awarded the specific sports accomplishments as follows: Baseball Coach Mike Sampson recognized the accomplishments of his baseball team by stressing the willingness of the team to learn, follow direction and compete with determination despite a winless season. Trevor Perrott was awarded for outstanding batting, while Corey Burkhardt and Noah Puntney took co-honors in pitching. Sampson was assisted by Mario Aguirre and Mark Tennis in coaching the youth.
Softball Coach Richard Dixon, assisted by Kristi Christy and Eric Paulin, congratulated the girls softball team for a 19-3 season, ''the most wins in the school's history.'' The team outscored their opponents, 230-53, and concluded 10 games via the 10-run rule. Other highlights of the season included winning the Oblong tournament for the second year, defeating Casey for the first time with a score of 7-4. It was also the second year that the team had been the conference champions. The team also claimed the regional championship, went on to defeat Cumberland for the sectional championship and finished at second in the state! For individual awards, the following were announced: Defensive award - Tori Paulin Pitching award (with a 14-3 record, six shut-outs and 117 strike-outs) - Ashlyn Carr Hitting award (with five home runs) - Kelsey Perrott Girls basketball Girls basketall awards were given as follows: Seventh grade High point maker - Heather Perry Most rebounds - Kynlee York Most free throws - Maran Tennis Eighth grade Most rebounds - Lori Fiscus Co-MVPs - Taylor Paulin and Tori Paulin Best Defensive player - Kelsi Perrott Best Offensive player - Dakota Moan Saluki Spirit award - Kendahl Stout Boys basketball For boys basketball, highlights were pointed out by Coach Eric Adamson and Coach Richard Dixon with a 10-12 seventh grade record, defeating county rivals, (Lawrenceville) three times, and taking third place in the conference. Individual awards were presented as follows: Seventh grade Best Offensive player - Blake Adams Most free throws - Jake Allen Most Improved - Max Andersen For the eighth grade basketball team, a season record of 7-14 was accomplished. Individual awards were presented as follows: Most free throws (making 59 of 96) - Matthew Young Best Defensive player - Tyler Scaggs Most Outstanding Player - (scoring 245 points, 96 rebounds, 20 assists and 36 steals) - Matthew Young Girls track Andrea Gray awarded the girls track team for the season which included the seventh grade team taking third place in the Red Hill Invitational, fourth in the conference. The eighth grade girls track team placed first in the Red Hill Invitational, third in the conference and tied for second in the sectionals. Andie Scherer set a school record in the 400m run with a time of 1:05.75. She was a state qualifier, along with the 400m relay team, and Kelsey Beard in the 100m and long jump. Maddie Hammel was named the MVP for the seventh grade with 79 points. Kelsi Perrott was the eighth grade MVP with 130.75 points. Boys track In boys track, Coach Dixon gave highlights of the season as both the seventh and eighth grade teams placed first in the Red Hill Invitational, The sixth/seventh grade team placed third in the conference, while the eighth grade placed fourth. Tyler Sparks, Jake Allen (400m), Max Andersen (100m and 200m) and Blake Adams (long jump) were conference champions. Advancing into the sectionals, Sparks led the way in the 100m, 400m, and high jump. The seventh grade relay team also placed first. Eight members of the eighth grade team competed at the state level. Tyler Sparks again made his mark at the State competition as the champion in the 400m for the second year. He also surpassed the school record, set by Jay Murphy, in the 100m, with a time of 11:48 during sectional competition. Max Andersen was named as the seventh grade MVP with 161 1/2 points. Tyler Sparks was the MVP for the eighth grade with 211 1/4 points. Cheerleaders Andrea Gray also recognized cheerleaders for their support throughout the year. Barbara E.
