St. Francisville Toll Booth Construction To Begin Soon

St. Francisville Toll Booth Construction to begin soon

Construction of a new toll booth for the City of St. Francisville's Cannonball Bridge is imminent,

Mayor Stan Williams reported during the Wednesday, February 8, City Council meeting that the new building would bear a cost between $11,000 and $14,000. He anticipated city workers doing a lot of the work on their own in order to reduce costs.

The 12 x 18 building will include a 6 x 8 handicap-accessible bathroom, a steel door, and three sliding windows. A multi-flow sewer system was put in during the fall in anticipation of this project.

The bridge will remain open during construction of the new tollbooth. It is much used, with the January traffic count of crossing vehicles at 17,913.

There also was discussion at the council meeting of two smaller bridges needing maintenance, as well as the Cannonball Bridge.

A 2012 bridge inspection contract with Hamptom, Lenzini, Renwick, Inc. engineering firm, based in Springfield and Elgin, was approved

State- and federally-mandated inspection will cost $85,422.44. Eighty percent of these costs will be reimbursed to the city.
