Lady Tigers' volleyball action

The Lady Tigers volleyball team saw action at Lawrenceville and at home against Cumberland.

The Lady Tigers split games at Lawrenceville, with the seventh grade team picking-up a win and the eighth grade team taking a loss in volleyball action on Monday, February 6.

"The girls worked really hard and never gave up. They just kept working harder and harder until they got the win," coach Sarah Barthelme said. Oblong earned the win in three sets, 17-25, 25-17, 25-19.

Abby Flynn finished with 19 points, with six aces to lead the Lady Tigers' scoring, while Madison Allen added six points, five aces and one kill. Hallie Allen had three points, with one ace, and one assist; Lauryn Frichtl had two points, with one ace; Kassey Wells had two points, with one assist; and Katie Collins had two points. Clara Russell finished with three kills, and Skyler Weger had two kills.

Missed serves took their toll as the eighth grade team lost in three sets, 14-25, 25-18, 9-25.

Cecilia Slane posted six points, with two aces; Baylee Sparks had five points, with two aces; and Chloey Devore had five points. Bailey Johnson had four points, with two aces; Samantha Pepmeier finished with two points, with one ace; and Cheyenne Wells had one point and one kill.

The Lady Tigers lost two games to the Cumberland Lady Raiders on Thursday, February 9. The seventh grade team lost in straight sets, 7-25, 4-25.

Hallie Allen, Madison Allen, Frichtl, and Flynn each had a point for the Lady Tigers.

Oblong lost the eighth grade game in three sets, 25-20, 25-27, 18-25.

Wells had 10 points, with two aces, and one kill, while Fannie Scott had nine points. Sparks scored eight points, with three aces; Devore had six points, with one ace; Johnson had five points, with four aces, and three kills; and Pepmeier had four points, with two aces. Tess Kemp had one kill.

"This was a disappointing loss," Barthelme said. "We were the better team; we just couldn't finish the game."
