Historian Awarded Grant to Repair Clock Tower
David Burgett, courthouse historian, has been awarded a grant for up to $46,000 from the Richard H. Driehaus County Courthouse Grant Program. The grant is a matching fund-type, to be used to restore the four clock faces, replace clock face lighting and wiring, clean and restore the Seth Thomas bell and hammer, and reconnect the Seth Thomas clock to the bell.
Burgett was instrumental in placing the courthouse on the National Register of Historic Places and studied the structure for years, many of which are superb architectural works that currently are largely unnoticed.
